How does one heal from a broken heart and move on? Calliope Ingalls keeps asking herself that question over and over after her beloved husband and Master’s death. It’s been fifteen months since the awful tragedy which took Henry’s life, and now Calliope finds herself alone since most of their friends and acquaintances have written her off due to her pushing them away. The only constant has been her agent Jolie. When Jolie appears offering her a photographic shoot to help salvage her career, will she have the courage to live life anew?

Enjoy a powerful novel of love lost and found again in Melinda Barron’s Master of the Sun. My heart broke for Calliope, so young and in love with her Master. Retreating into a shell, she’s isolated herself from the outside world. Thank goodness her agent Jolie does not give up on her, and with tough love makes Calliope realize she’s not honoring her late husband’s memory with her actions.

Packing up all her camera equipment, Calliope is intent to quickly do the job Silas Hope wants and then return home to her memories. Silas is thrilled Calliope took the job, but has an ulterior motive for wanting her specifically. He witnessed the lightning chemistry between Calliope and Henry and now wants her to submit sexually to him. Silas doesn’t fight fair and campaigns for her affections the minute she walks into his soon-to-be opened B&B. Will this sneaky Dom be exactly what Calliope needs to mend her heart in order to be able to offer it to him?

While at times Master of the Sun was difficult to read, I admire Ms. Barron for allowing Calliope to exorcise her demons. Calliope truly and deeply loved her husband so it made sense for her to be conflicted over the powerful attraction she felt for Silas. Because of her journey, she was able to freely give herself to Silas and adjust to her new Dom’s demands. Their D/s scenes together were highly emotional as well as sexually charged—exactly what I would expect from a Melinda Barron novel. I would love to return to this couple in the future and see how their relationship has progressed. I also want to see if Jolie and Chuck find happiness.
