Lisa Spencer’s life takes a strange turn when an earthquake wracks her California town. All of a sudden, the world as she knew it changed, revealing a fantastic history that she could never have comprehended. In this brave new world Lisa and her friend Tanya must learn to adapt and survive. In this brand new reality, Tanya, Liz and friend Andrea must join together to persevere in a world that is as foreign to them as it is dangerous. The dangers are very real. I enjoyed Rift and the world the author laid forth. This fantasy tale and its themes of friendship and the history and ancient historical magic made this a unique tale. The characters were well drawn and engaged my attention and emotions. I would have liked some more details about the world and mythology present, but this was only a minor problem for me. The author is part of the Ashleigh Raine erotic romance writing team, who write urban fantasy. I can see Ms. Slayter’s complex world-building in evidence here. This appears to be her first solo work, and I’m interested to see what else she has up her sleeve. |
