Lilly sees her best friend’s groom in a compromising position on their wedding day, so she does what any good friend would do and tells. Problem is, the ex-groom is her landlord and she finds herself being evicted. As she sends her best friend on her honeymoon for one, Lilly must find a new place to live. Nate is a former boy band star who has renovated his guesthouse and rents the finished project for a pittance to Lily. As the relationship grows between the two, Max, the former groom, exhibits troubling behavior while he tries to force Lily to give him the location of his former fiancée. When Max’s behavior becomes extreme, can Nate convince Lily that Max is dangerous? Will Lily’s independent nature prevent her from making a love connection or cost her to lose her new life? One Hit Wonderful by Hannah Murray has some wonderful interaction between Lily and her best friends. I found myself laughing out loud a few times. However I found myself struggling with the chemistry between Lily and Nate which I did not find believable. I liked Nate, and the idea that this former boy band star had transitioned into a successful second career. I liked that Lily was a strong female character who struggled with allowing people close. I just didn’t like the two of them as a couple. The relationship between the two felt forced. They were better friends than lovers, at least to me. Ms. Murray allowed Lily to grow and understand she made people work, sometimes too hard, to be a part of her life, which I thought was wonderful to see. I did not see Nate and Lily growing together, which was disappointing. I think this story was well written and had all of the ingredients to make a good story; it just didn’t gel together as I would have hoped. |
