After a thousand years of imprisonment, Boryn is finally free.  As a Cyvampis, a blood demon, his responsibility is to help souls that are marked for death make the transition so when his failure resulted in an unmarked child passing over, he accepted his punishment and went to ground.  Now that he’s risen again, he seeks blood and sex in order to gain sustenance and strength.

Catrina is in season and is unable to control her desire to mate.  At a Halloween party, she meets Boryn and knows instantly that he isn’t human and senses that his power is ancient.  When he offers to help her, she accepts quickly, anxious to appease her desires.

Catrina is a strong independent woman that has overcome many obstacles to survive.  Boryn is compassionate and a pillar of strength.  Together they make an unlikely pair except their chemistry is undeniable.  I am a fan of L. Shannon’s work but felt that Season of Blood was somewhat rushed, with too many characters and ideas being introduced and not enough time or explanation to really appreciate them.  Expanding this intriguing story into a full-length novel would be absolutely delightful due to Ms. Shannon's high level of talent and creativity.
