Erik the Golden has an amazing gift from the gods. The Voice, as he refers to it, allows him to command anyone to anything. But his gift has become a burden to him. He used it to take a life and now he must suffer the consequences of that action. The gods are threatening to take his gift back. If they do, they will also take his first love with it, his love of singing. In order to keep his dream he must keep the gift of the Voice but only use it for good. When the gods ask him what he really wants, he says it is to find a woman that the Voice will not work on. He thinks he will never find her but then he meets Pruella Takimori McGuire. Prue is the business manager for an escort service named The Garden of Nocturnal Delights. She is a woman firmly rooted in numbers and things she can see - not magical influences. When Erik tries his charms on her he finds his magical abilities do not work on Prue. Unfortunately for him though, Prue sees him as a man who gets any woman he wants at the snap of his fingers and she refuses to become just another name on his list of conquests. Erik wants Prue and now has to use his mortal talents to seduce her. But there is also a Necromancer on the loose. He too wants Prue. When he kidnaps her, it is up to Erik to save her. To save the woman he loves with all his heart and soul. The woman that just might be his only salvation. Thief of Light by Denise Rossetti is a fascinating read that I had a hard time putting down. The character of Erik had me cheering for him from page one where he talks to the gods about the powers they have bestowed on him. If someone gave you a chance to have a super power would you take it? And if you did would you be willing to pay a huge price to have it? Erik chose to have the Voice. But he had no idea the price he would have to pay to keep it. He would have been happy just singing for the rest of his life but the gods had other plans for him. Prue is a smart lady; she runs the books for a very profitable escort service. The girls are top notch escorts that are classy and expensive. She is not a whimsical woman but rather a practical one that earns her own way in life. The first time she hears Erik sing, she falls in love with his voice and is overwhelmed by is beauty. When she meets the man himself she thinks he's just another player. But the more she gets to know Erik the more her feelings change. Especially when he saves her from the worst evil she has ever known. When you want a beautiful love story with characters that make you want more, read Thief of Light. I for one would love to read more books like this from Ms. Rossetti! Thief of the Light will be on my keeper shelf for sure. This novel is the second in the Four Sided Pentacle series but can be read alone and enjoyed completely. |
