| Ethan Day’s new work, As You Are, tells the story of roommates Julian and Danny. Julian loves Danny but Danny plays the field and doesn’t seem to think of Julian as more than a roommate. But when Julian goes out on a date, could Danny be jealous? While Julian and Danny are floundering in their friendship, Julian’s mother comes for a visit and Julian isn’t sure what is happening when she tells him she is seeing someone. How will all the relationships change in Julian’s life? Told in Julian’s sardonic voice As You Are is one of the funniest books I have read in more than a year. When I say funny, I mean laugh out loud, tears rolling down the cheeks funny. Gabby’s dinner party is a scream! I loved Julian and his best female friend Gabby. They have a relationship where nothing is sacred or secret. They know everything about each other. Neither is happy where the other’s heart and love is placed. Danny, I could have boxed his ears, he made me so mad. There is Julian, available and in love with him, but can he see it? No, he wants the young studs and emotionally hurts Julian after physically loving him one night. I enjoyed the tone of the story. Julian’s voice is so funny. I couldn’t put it down and hated to see As You Are end. If you are looking for a fun frothy frolic this is the book for you. Ethan Day has a hit on his hands. Good job! |
