Gail Henderson and Crystal Al Jabbar have been best friends since junior high school.  They have experienced many ups and downs together, including the death of Gail’s husband and son and Crystal’s five miscarriages. Two years after the loss of Gail’s family, Crystal asks Gail to be a surrogate mother. Crystal wants to use Gail’s eggs and her husband Rashid’s sperm in order to finally have a baby. While Gail has lots of reservations about agreeing to be Crystal’s surrogate, she’s also always had an inability to say no to her.

Rashid Al Jabbar loves Crystal and has resigned himself to the fact that they will never have children. Crystal almost dying after the last miscarriage makes him realize that a child is not worth Crystal’s life. When Crystal approaches him with this surrogacy scheme he knows that Gail may be his last chance to have a son of his own.

Greg Richmont is an attorney at the firm where Gail works. He’s been interested in her for a long time but has been waiting for her to stop grieving the loss of her husband.  After Gail finally agrees to go out with him, Greg discovers that she’s the surrogate mother of Crystal and Rashid’s child. Will their newly blossoming relationship be able to survive Gail’s having another man’s baby.

Crystal and Gail unknowingly set into motion a series of events that couldn’t have been planned for when Gail agreed to be Crystal and Rashid’s surrogate. It was interesting to see how the pregnancy affected both couples. Prior to Gail becoming pregnant, Gail and Rashid were merely acquaintances who really didn’t know one another that well. Gail was Crystal’s best friend and she came with the “Crystal package.” I enjoyed watching the evolution of Gail and Rashid’s relationship. They shared many tender and touching moments both during and after Gail’s pregnancy.

I’ll admit that I’ve been very interested in reading The Question since I read the blurb several months ago. I wondered how Zena Wynn was going to write a romance novel that revolves around a surrogate pregnancy.  First let me say that I wasn’t disappointed. I feel Ms. Wynn did a beautiful job with this story. I really want to eloborate more but I don't feel I can do that without giving away spoilers.

Readers that are familiar with Ms. Wynn’s prior work know that she writes steamy love scenes and the scenes in The Question are no exception!  If you’re looking for romance with a twist, I urge you to add this one to the top of your TBR pile.
