| Tala Kinkaid has had her future mapped out for her since before she was born, because to avoid a war with a rival pack, Tala’s own pack promised their firstborn were female as Hunt’s bride. It’s just Tala’s bad luck that she was the first one born and the one meant to fulfill the decades-old promise, but not to worry – Tala has a plan. This plan is sure to grant her the freedom she so craves and the liberty to be as Alpha as she likes, while sleeping with whomever she chooses – all on her own terms. However, Tala never counted on Hunt’s charm or her own driving need to mate with him and make his pack her own, especially when she meets Dunne. Hunt and Dunne have been a unit for almost twenty years and even though Dunne and Hunt have always know things would change when Tala reached her majority they are both uncertain as to what changes her presence will mean. Dunne fears Tala will permanently push him to the periphery of Hunt’s life, which is almost more than he can stand as he has loved Hunt unconditionally for decades, yet when Tala appears she manages to attract Dunne in ways he never expected and certainly doesn’t welcome. Hunt, on the other hand, knew exactly what Tala’s presence would mean for Dunne, but he never expected the bonus he actually got – which is a bond that he hoped for between the three of them, but never counted on becoming reality. Things become a little more complicated when Arlin, Tala’s cousin and childhood love, appears to check up on her and ends up becoming part of this unique relationship that Tala, Hunt and Dunne are forming. Then, when an unknown pack tries to kill Tala everything threatens to spin out of control. Can Tala be Alpha enough to get them through this? Can she give up Arlin as she must to build her future with Hunt and Dunne? Alpha 4: Beg continues Hunt and Dunne’s gritty tale begun in the previous books in the series and almost twenty years ago. I must admit to a small ick factor every time I remembered how, and how long ago, Hunt and Dunne were introduced but once I set that niggling fact aside the story was so emotional and full of passionately erotic encounters that I became immersed in their world and resented coming to the end of their tale. Hunt continues to be his enigmatic self, yet when those closest to him are threatened Hunt reveals that he does have a heart and his emotions run deeper than anyone imagined. Dunne has loved Hunt for decades while living with the uncertainty of not knowing Hunt’s feelings for him. Dunne reveals the depth of his love and revels in the reality of knowing that Tala not only wants him but needs him just as she needs Hunt. Tala and Arlin are the hardest to understand as they are so young and clueless themselves, but in the end they prove their mettle in all the ways that count! Treva Harte most definitely proves what a talented story teller she is in this complex, yet short tale, involving such rich characters, all the while touching on traditionally taboo subject such as sex while in shifted form in such a way as to make it erotic and not grotesque. She will most definitely have many fans clamoring at her doors for the next story involving this intense and erotic group and the next installment of the series. Alpha 4: Beg is the fourth installment of Treva Harte’s Alpha series and not to be missed! |
