Seventeen-year-old Sara Noland and her friend were going to a long awaited rock concert. The parking lot was so crowded that there was no room for her little car. When a spot opened up, a snazzy corvette swooped into her place! There was nothing she could do but look at the two hunks who got out and made their way into the concert. Then one of the hunks motioned her to a spot right in front of the entrance before proceeding to escort a reluctant Sara and her friend into the building. After the concert, her friend left with one of the men in the corvette, leaving Sara to bring Paul to the restaurant where they could meet again. Sara was leery of letting a strange man in her car but she took pity on him, all the while praying that her dad would not find out. Sara and Paul hit it off and spent as much time as they could together, because Paul was shipping out to Vietnam soon. After Paul left, Sara wrote him every day and waited for his letters to come but they never did. It was the hardest thing in the world to tell her parents that she was pregnant. Sara was sent to her aunt's home to have the baby and give it up for adoption. The plan was for her to return home and go to college. When Sara learns that Paul was killed, she decides instead to keep the baby, who is a part of him.
Twenty-year-old Paul Steinert saw the girl in the VW Beetle and his heart dropped to his stomach. She was reserved and curt while her friend flirted with his friend Mitch. Sara was skittish as a colt and he knew that she was jail bait but he could not help but want her. They took every spare minute to be together and he fell in love with Sara when she offered her most treasured gift. After taking her virginity, Paul wanted to meet her parents and get engaged before he shipped out, but Sara claimed her parents wanted to break them up any way they could.
Anne Krist tells a beautiful story about a love that lasted through years, distance, and lies. Sara's parents threw Paul's letters a way until Sara thought he had merely been using her. She watched for his letters day after day…and none ever came. When Sara found out she was pregnant, she was actually relieved that her mom and dad took control. Years later, Sara receives three of Paul's letters, only to find that Paul had loved her after all. Burning Bridges is a story that will break your heart as you read about Sara the teenager and Sara the adult, who had to comes to terms with what her parents did. Their actions had forever changed her life. |
