As Kelsey Howard lies naked on the beach in a foreign country, she wonders if there is more to life.  Many people envy her for her footloose, fancy free lifestyle back home. Now in her early 30’s, she’s done everything on her “to do list” and doubts if she’ll ever find everlasting love.  Returning home, she happily goes back to her old routine, tending bar at night and engaging in one-night stands.  One evening a neighbor across from her condo complex notices her erotic striptease and subsequent orgasmic interlude.  Harlan Shaw can’t believe what he’s seeing, knows he shouldn’t be watching, but is riveted to this amazing woman.  What will happen as these two meet and engage in the dance of love? My Prerogative is a blistering novel from Sasha White.  I readily identified with Kelsey, a spunky, confident, modern woman unafraid to go after what she wants in life.  When she meets Harlan, Kelsey wonders if he could be the one man she’d want to settle down with.  Harlan is the perfect compliment to her, loving Kelsey for the woman she is, not looking to change her in any way.

Ms. White demonstrates why she’s a writer of superb erotic romance, by giving us more to Kelsey than just sex.  While the sexual interaction between this couple is steamy, it’s doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of Kelsey’s complex personality.  I enjoyed meeting Kelsey’s family and friends during her budding relationship with Harlan.  I sympathized with Kelsey envious emotions about being the older sister, still single on the sidelines, while her mother and younger sister prepared for her wedding.  I understood her awkward feelings about visiting her married friend while her husband was around.  I enjoyed that Ms. White returns to the universe she started in Trouble with an update of Samair and Val.  Val is Kelsey’s boss and provides her with wise guidance.  I don’t know if I could be as provocative as Kelsey but after reading My Prerogative, I think I’m willing to give it a try!
