Welcome L.A. Day! L.A Day is a multi-published author whose favorite genre is erotic romance with a paranormal twist. With alpha males that are“bigger” and better in everyway she creates characters that are hard to resist. Her feeling is if your going to create a fantasy it should rock your world, and she hasn’t let us down yet. Her love for reading began at an early age and with that sparked her interest in writing. Later putting that dream aside to raise her family. But holding true to the saying do what you love and the rest will follow, that is exactly what she did, and now 20+ years later she is living her dream. Once sneaking away to read her mothers romance novels she now brings us her own stories of erotic passion and forbidden love.
To find out more about Ms. Day and her work you can go her web site at www.la-day.com Thank you, Laura for taking the time for this interview. I really enjoy your books. (bg) Can you tell our readers a little about yourself? I live in the Midwest and I’m a wife, a mother and a dog owner. Besides writing and reading, I spend much of my time watching my daughter play volleyball and I’m a huge Nascar fan. What made you decide to become a writer? I began reading my mom’s romance novels at a young age, by middle school I wrote my first YA romance. It was bad but my mother encouraged me to stick with it. What does a typical writing day look like for you? I work a day job so most of my writing is done at night and on the weekends. Have you ever had one of those profound “AH-HA!” moments while you were writing? Would you be willing to share it? Since I don’t plot my books, most of my stories have a “AH-HA” moment when I see exactly where my characters are going. A big “Ah-Ha moment I had was when I discovered Dirk was bi-sexual. Dirk is a secondary character in Feral Domination and Feral Lust. Feral Intensity is his story and when I began the story I realized he was bi-sexual and would have a male mate. Feral Intensity releases from Ellora’s Cave later this year. What was the most uplifting moment you’ve experienced during your writing career? The most disappointing? The most uplifting moment has to be the first contract from Ellora’s Cave. Every contract is a thrill but the first is surreal. The most disappointing is the rejection letters I received from publishers. If you could switch places with a heroine from one of your books, who would you choose and why? Hmm, I would switch with Jill from They Both Belong To Me. Why? Because I would get to be in the middle of Johann and Talon. LOL They are hot, bisexual males. The heroes in your books are sexy, alpha males, and if you could have kept one, who would you choose and why? This is tough. I love all my alpha males. I’ve been asked this before and I always say Lone Wolf from The Last Warrior. He’s a Native American from 1866 that time-traveled to the current day. There is just something extra special about him. Where does the inspiration for your stories come from? My husband is standing over my shoulder and he says it’s from him. So, I’m going with that. (We can talk later about this.) wink wink Do you personally research your erotic scenes? You’re killing me here! I’ll admit to trying a position or two to see if it’s humanly possible. Can you tell our readers a little about what you’re currently working on? I am currently working on a story titled, Eye Stone. Two rival realtors are trapped in an unusual haunted house and their desire for each other is intensified by the extraordinary attributes of the property. Is there something special you do to celebrate when one of your books is released? Usually my husband takes me out to dinner but nothing fancy. Do you have any strange habits or talents? Nothing I’m willing to share! I really hate the "meek and mild woman" in stories. What about you? What about a woman is a turn-off for you when reading a book by another author? I like my heroines to have backbone and a sense of humor. They tend to be sarcastic but I don’t like an all out bitch. I really hate the "know-it-all-male" in stories. What about you? What about a man is a turn-off for you when reading a book by another author? I love an alpha male that thinks he knows it all, usually though he ends up bending for his lady. I don’t like a wimpy hero. How do you decide on what qualities you will give your hero? Your heroine? Every character is a little different. Since, most of what I write is sci-fi and paranormal, some characters call for special traits. Which do you do first, write the story and find a title that fits? Or create a title and write a story to go with it? I write the story and usually the title comes to me along the way. What in your opinion makes good chemistry between your leading characters? Heat and humor! When did you submit your first book? I submitted my very first book about 5 years ago. Feral Domination, my first accepted book was submitted at the beginning of 2006. How many books do you currently have published? And where are they published? I have eleven published books and four contracted books. You can find my work at Ellora’s Cave, Cobblestone Press and Changeling Press. What makes you happy and why? My family makes me happy. Without them, nothing would be the same. I’m very lucky to have a wonderful husband and a beautiful daughter. What is sexier............ a) a long lingering look, b) a touch of a person's hand c) licking of lips d) a long shuddering sigh The long lingering look-definitely! Does a romance really work with an a) older man younger woman (say 20yr age gap) b) younger man older woman (say 15yr age gap) c) neither? They both work for me! Age is irrelevant when it comes to love. When writing a love / sex scene how satisfied are you that you made it a) hot b) tender c) down-and-dirty d) long and slow Most of my books have a little of each of these. The first sex scenes are usually hot, down & dirty. Usually my last love scene of the book is long, slow and tender. Which of your books would you describe as a) laugh-out-loud-sexy and full of fun b) adventurous and wild c) hot and steamy I think they’d all qualify as hot and steamy. Dancing for the Wolf would be adventurous and wild. I have humor in most of my books but laugh-out-loud-sexy and fun would go to They Both Belong To Me. How difficult is it for you to have to re-write a whole scene / chapter because your editor does not agree with what you have written and they suggest changes? I’ve never had to change a whole scene. I’ve been asked to clarify certain aspects of a story and usually it’s not a problem. You’ve just found a bottle on the beach and out pops a genie. What are your three wishes? Health for my family and friends. Wealth Now, the toss up. Do I go for world peace or to be skinny for the rest of my life? Can I have four wishes? What question do you wish an interviewer would ask but never does? (Then please answer it) I think you have it all covered. Which do you prefer, bad boys or perfect gentlemen and why? Bad Boys! Because they are HOT!!! Besides your honey man, who makes your heart beat fast and why? You really are trying to get me in trouble. Vin Diesel – his muscles Brad Pitt- If you ever saw Meet Joe Black you’d know why. Jeff Gordon – Because he’s adorable. What is your favorite genre to read? Paranormal erotic romance Is there a genre you wouldn’t tackle? f/f erotic romance. And here are some fun, get to know you questions. What is your favorite food? Chinese What is your favorite color? Red What is your favorite movie? The Lord of the Rings What is your favorite TV Show? Moonlight What is you favorite time of day? Afternoon What is your favorite childhood memory? Playing with my brother and sisters. If you could be on any reality TV show, what would it be and why? The only reality TV I watch is American Idol. However, I cannot sing and I would not make a fool of myself. What advice would you give to "would-be-closet-writers" like me? Keep writing! Persistence does eventually pay off. Now for a little TwoLips Pillow Talk …go ahead have a little fun!!! What is your favorite word for penis? Cock What is your least favorite word for penis? Love wand Is there a sex scene you have always wanted to use in a book and never have? Why haven’t you? Not really! I’ve tried most everything and if I think of something, I try it. I have had a few scenes edited because they went over the line according to my editor. What is your favorite curse word? Fuck What turns you on in a book? Turns you off? I love the flirting, the build up and I love a forceful alpha male. A wimpy male is a turn off for me. Do you have any other closing comments? I want to thank TwoLips Reviews for this awesome interview. You all really came up with some great questions. Once again Laura, thank you for taking the time for this interview.
