Twenty years ago, six-year-old Maitlin had been menaced by a stalker. He had wanted her dead, and she'd hidden in a pine wood pile behind her home, shaking with fear, terrified of making a sound. Now, many years later, the adult Maitlin Tilney, sales manager for Colton Computers, is being stalked once more. Her secret past is confronting her present and Maitlin's long-term boyfriend opts for a quick exit. Andreas Hoffman has often roamed the countryside in his RV. As a writer he takes frequent trips, allowing other writers to stay at the "bolt hole", as he drives anywhere that takes his fancy. When he first encounters the drenched woman thumbing for a lift, it's raining so hard that he almost misses her. Even though she's smiling when she hastily yanks open his door, her expression quickly turns to fear. Laraine Anne Barker pens a story that was slow paced at first, but hooked me by the second half of the book. Stalker from Her Past has just a touch of sex in it, along with a huge blond man to die for, and a twenty-six-year-old virgin who jumps at the slightest touch from a man! Ms. Barker detailed the countryside so vividly I could almost see the trees and shrubbery. Andreas had vowed never to marry after Alma had suckered him in with her lying and hedonistic ways. The woman had left him for some other wealthy victim who succumbed to her acting skills. Maitlin is the polar opposite of Alma, all fiercely guarded independence in contrast to Alma's hunt for a rich man. Great descriptions and a suspenseful plot make this a book readers will enjoy. |
