Marisol has lived, not for herself, but at the mercy of the wills of others. After her brother accidentally kills her husband, he and Sol must flee their comfortable home. Their flight takes them through the Dark Forest, a magical forest said to be inhabited by the mysterious dark elves. When rogue elves capture Sol and her brother for nefarious purposes, Jarak and his men are sent to save the humans. Her chance encounter with the dark elves will leave Marisol’s life forever changed.

Jet Mykles never fails to thrill me with her writing and her Dark Elves series is among my favorite series of all time. Dark Elves 4: Dissent is a welcome continuance to an already outstanding series. This one is a departure from the others and breathes new life into the mythos of the dark elves.

I felt empathy and admiration for the heroine, Marisol. She shows remarkable strength of character when dealing with a situation no person should have to face. She is also the person others around her can count on. She is strong for her brother, who behaves like a spoiled child throughout the story, when he needs her to hold him together.

Jarak is also an immensely likeable hero because he handles Marisol and her brother with kid gloves and fights against his instincts to ensure her safety and comfort. He is a remarkable hero and one to remember.

This story focuses more on the burgeoning relationship between Sol and Jarak rather than a sexual relationship between the hero and heroine. That allows the reader to become intimately involved with the emotions of the characters, which is a departure from previous books in this series where sex is the focus. Of course, the love relations between Sol and Jarak are cataclysmic, utterly satisfying and well worth the wait.

Jet Mykles’ Dark Elves 4: Dissent is going straight to my keeper shelf and it is my sincere hope that more books in the series are soon forthcoming.
