Fala takes advantage of an opportunity to go on an archaeological expedition to Algott. As assistant historian to Arpana Toryl, her job is to document everything that happens on the dig. She’s attracted to Jahesh, the lead archaeologist on the dig and hopes that during their time together she’ll get to know him a lot better.

The first time he sees her, Jahesh is drawn to Fala’s warmth and natural beauty. He’s so taken with her that he immediately makes his interest known.

Fertile Ground by Lyndi Lamont picks up right where Diplomatic Alliance left off which is delightful because it answers a lot of questions that I had. I love the storyline in Alliance: Fertile Ground, especially the character of Maradon and all she symbolizes. I also really enjoyed the lack of pretence in the relationship between Fala and Jahesh – they don’t play games with each other and are honest and mature about their attraction to each other. On the other hand, I couldn’t help feeling that some of the scenarios are entirely too incredulous to believe, like the fact that Fala and Jahesh have so much privacy in the middle of such a large archaeological dig. Having sex in the middle of the day in the very waterfall that they are digging behind is completely implausible. I liked their characters though, and was very glad that they got on so well so quickly and was elated that they have found such happiness together. If you can suspend your disbelief regarding the implausibility of some portions of this story, it’s a good read.
