Brandon King is a man with a terrible track record in picking boyfriends and Phil Gates, his latest, is sadly not proving to be the exception to the rule. Trapped in a closeted relationship with a selfish man, Brandon is afraid to call it quits and remain alone – after all, bad company is better than no company at all, right? Apparently not, as Brandon soon discovers. Brandon’s egotistical boyfriend has betrayed him on one of the deepest levels imaginable and Brandon just might not recover from this latest blow. So when The Collector approaches him with a proposition he can’t refuse, Brandon jumps at the chance as it promises to grant him his heart’s desire. And Brandon’s heart’s desire is having his lover, Phil, back and loving him fully. However, as Brandon sets out on his quest he begins to question what his heart really wants…especially when he meets Christian Carter.

The Collector 9: The Lost Temple of Karttikeya is a unique paranormal romance by Laura Baumbach with all the elements of a true adventure. As a conclusion to The Collector series it is outstanding as all the questions are answered and we finally find out why The Collector has gone through all the effort of obtaining the different pieces of the totem. Brandon is a real man and he has just as many faults as lovable qualities. I must admit that in the beginning I felt a very strong urge to smack him for his foolishness as I felt his deep discontent with his life. Christian is the perfect foil for Brandon and I loved him from the start. Christian is the “almost perfect man” brought to life with all the little quirks that make him than much more endearing. The adventures of these two in the wilds of India will have you on the edge of your seat – especially when they finally meet the temple guardian and they discover what they may have to sacrifice in order escape with their lives and the statue. As we have come to expect from Laura Baumbach, The Lost Temple of Karttikeya is action packed and full of passion and love. However, in a change of pace for long time readers of Laura Baumbach’s work, this book is not as gritty and the passion between the characters is more ephemeral than usual. That said, The Lost Temple of Karttikeya is a must have for readers of The Collector series, Laura Baumbach fans and lovers of M/M romance.
