Four years ago, Keir was the Prince of the Realm. That was before he declared himself outcast without explanation and moved to the human world. As an incubus, his magic was taking a direction that was incompatible with the Realm’s wishes. Now his past is back to haunt him as his mother, the Queen of the Realm, sends Christophe to take him on a quest to find the Maiden’s Circle – an artifact which the Queen desperately needs. Once upon a time he knew Christophe as an ungainly angel, all wings and no balance, but Christophe has grown up in his absence and wants to know why his friend left him so many years ago. Angels Come to Visit by Dianne Fox is a character driven novella to the extent that the plot suffers in comparison. The focus is firmly on Keir and Christophe and how they overcome their bitter past to love each other. The love story is definitely sweet and touching. I was rooting for both of them from page one. I wish the author had spent more time developing the pot which would have made this a superb read. As it is, Angels Come to Visit reads like a it was written in a hurry. |
