Kari Warner was walking home late at night when she was attacked by a large dog. Waking up in a hospital was comforting since at least she knew that she was still alive. Getting drugged and kidnapped, waking up in a strange place and then being told that she’s a werewolf queen, well, not quite comforting. Andreas is ready to woo his Mate and is upset that she’s been changed too early. Kidnapping her from the hospital is his only viable option. When the full moon rises, if he’s not there to help her through the transition, she’ll die. I kept on trying to become uncomfortable with how Andreas completely takes control of Kari’s life but Lauren Dane puts enough fire and resistance into Kari’s character that I found myself appreciative of her efforts and Andreas' remorse. Kari’s easy capitulation is understandable as well given her childhood and desire to belong somewhere and be cared about by someone. I absolutely loved Kari and couldn’t wait to hear what would come out of her mouth next –definitely my kind of gal! And oh la la, the naughty things that came out of Andreas’ mouth are enough to make any woman’s toes curl. Their insatiable desire for each other is erotic to the nth degree! Ascension is a fantastic start to what is bound to be another riveting series by Lauren Dane.
