Vivie Field is a student nurse at a hospital run by Dr. Alec Stratton, a very stern, uptight man. Vivie is a Druid who is looking for a way to combine her Druid ways with modern medicine. Her goal is to open her own clinic offering treatment to all who need it. Vivie clashes often with Alec and yet, the two slowly fall in love. Vivie is heartbroken when Alec tells her his goal is to marry a wealthy woman who can help him get further ahead in his career and he doesn’t believe that that woman is Vivie. When Vivie’s very life is threatened, Alec realizes what he has given up and he will have to decide if he is willing to sacrifice his own goals for his love for her. My Darling Druid held me spellbound. Jean Hart Stewart has an amazing voice and a true talent for creating believable and compelling characters. I found Vivie to be an admirable woman with a sense of self that shines through. Alec is not always likable, which only makes him more believable. His goals make sense when you learn more about his background, and he does evolve into a man who is worthy of Vivie’s love. The historical backdrop for My Darling Druid is perfect and adds to the experience. I recommend My Darling Druid as a wonderful story, a true must read. |
