Outwardly Sam is a normal young man who is just starting out on a career as a movie critic. His close friends know that he is a submissive. But only his family of practicing witches and a select few others know that he has the ability to spot a God or Goddess in the flesh before anybody else.

Gods are made by the power of the prayers humans unwittingly utter. There is a Goddess of Traffic, a God of Computer Crashes and a Goddess of Negotiation, to name but a few. Tired of his lousy love life after his break up with an abusive ex, Sam utters a powerful incantation to bring him his true master. When the magic is accepted, Sam has no choice but to hang along for the ride.

Hector is a legend in the BDSM circles. He can’t figure out what makes Sam tick as his new submissive. But their affair might be shorter than anticipated as powerful forces go to extreme lengths to ensure that only they benefit from the frighteningly great powers of Sam’s prayers.

Chaos Magic is author Jay Lygon’s first publication for Torquere Press and it is a gem of a story. The opening scene is one of the most wonderfully written introductions I have come across in a long time, and the writing keeps the same excellent standard throughout the novel. The prose flows perfectly and holds the reader’s attention throughout. The bedroom scenes are quite intense in this work. Expect heavy scenes of bondage and domination. I am not generally a fan of hard BDSM, but this novel is such an imaginative tour de force that I was riveted until I had finished the last page. So even of this is not your usual genre, give this one a chance. Sam and Hector as primary characters are described with flair. I was touched by the love and affection that grows between them alongside their deep power play. The secondary characters fit in beautifully and drive the story along. Sam’s paranormal ‘friends’ and his normal ones both have a role to play, as they balance the different strands of the storyline. The plot, though, stands heads and shoulders above the other elements that make up this story. Jay Lygon has created a paranormal world that is engrossing, startlingly original and deeply fascinating. I can only hope that the author explores this world further as I am not nearly ready to say goodbye to it. I am left with only one response: Bravo.
