| Special Agent L. D. Carmouche, a born and bred New Orleanian, isn't expecting to be confronted by past history on his current assignment in Boston, guarding an ambassador's hotel stay. Indeed, his refusal to return to New Orleans earlier had resulted in a negative report in his employment record and the current job in the cold and damp. Now he encounters beautiful and sexy Marie Bernard, also of Louisiana, who not only understands his softly-spoken comments in Creole, but predicts his future return to New Orleans--soon. When Marie is targeted by a criminal L. D. had tangled with years ago, it seems destiny has it in for him for certain. Stone killer Black is presumed dead in a fire caused by his van's collision with a tanker, and L. D. accepts that, but Marie insists her intuition says differently. Her instincts are right, and very quickly, Marie herself is targeted by Black, who plans to use first her siblings, and then herself, to punish L. D. His prior encounter years ago, which cost L. D. a loved one, had been only a contract for mercenary-for-hire Black, but now it's become personal and his determination to make L. D. suffer terribly emotionally and physically has L. D. rushing home to New Orleans--exactly what he had hoped to avoid. Bayou Treasure is an appealingly suspenseful novel with a light touch which enwraps the reader in excitement, romance, mystery, and thrills, while at the same time weaving a tapestry of romantic attraction and emotional intensity. Subplots and secondary characters build up the intensity, and the sociopolitical background is well-researched and designed. Author Georgia Tribell has written a mystery sure to appeal to readers of many and varied tastes. |
