Shifting Again is a collection of stories by several of Torquere Press’s finest writers. There are eight stories in all and each story focuses on some type of shapeshifter. Hide by Cat Zheng This is a futuristic story about humans that shift into Primitives, ape-like creatures. There is a rebellion fighting these Primitives and becoming one is the nightmare of all those who are normal. Rescuing Ryan by Sara Bell This the story of Ryan and Soren. Ryan is a human who moves to the wilds after his life is devastated. He saves a wolf from a human attack and discovers that the wolf is a man who claims Ryan as his mate. Who Will Know? by A. Steele This a story about the ancient Greek myth of the Titan Prometheus and the creature that torments him every single day, Antoc. The Lost Tiger by Sean Michael This story is about a tiger shifter, Torao, who escapes an evil circus and the human, Greyson, who takes him in and mates with Torao. Plums by Camilla Bruce This story is about a ferryman who spends his days carrying the dead to the local church on his boat whose only companion is a raven that meets him every day and rides on the boat. The raven turns into a man who saves the ferryman’s life forcing the ferryman to choose life or follow his raven lover into the next life. Singing Up The Moon by Angel This is about two sets of lovers in a small southern town. One set of lovers is two men who are werewolves. The other set of lovers is a male werewolf and a male gypsy. Both sets of lovers are on the cusp of change. Seal Skin by Kara Larson This story is about a man who is grieving over the lose of his wife and captures a selkie who helps him deal with his loss. Alpha by BA Tortuga This story is about two werewolves who make a pack together only to be torn apart by an imagined betrayal. When Roman drives Cage off and then realizes he was wrong, he must woo his lover into trusting him again. Each story in Shifting Again is a small look at the talent of its authors. My favorite story is Alpha by BA Tortuga. I felt Cage’s pain and loss when Roman turned on him. My least favorite story is Hide by Cat Zheng. I found it to be very confusing and I had to re-read the story twice before it made sense to me. Despite my confusion over Hide, on the whole, Shifting Again is a collection of stories that is very enjoyable and I do recommend it. |
