Sorcha considers her apprenticeship as a Wizard complete and is ready to seek the Heart of Fire. Taught by her mother, Elspeth, she knows the urgency to find the amulet is intensifying, as the King is inciting war with the Dragons. Despite the intervention of one dragon, Sorcha is able to acquire the amulet, but then loses consciousness from the pain endured in the acquisition. When she awakens, she is amazed to discover that she cannot access the reservoir of her own individual magical power; but that she is telepathic with the Dragon flight!

Unbelievably, she is no longer a human with magickal powers.  Acquiring the Heart of Fire has transformed Sorcha into a Dragon!  She learns to feed, fly, and lust in her new form. Perhaps most essential of all is that Sorcha now sees the dragon-human conflict as each side views it, no longer stereotyping the enemy.

What an exciting short story Sorcha’s Heart by Debbie Mumford proved to be! Sorcha goes through an incredible number of transformations, both physical and emotional. She finds true love, nearly loses it, and finds it again. Both the human and dragon races are enlightened through her determination to pursue her destiny and to find her life purpose. I highly recommend Sorcha’s Heart for lovers of fantasy or shapeshifters, and for any reader desiring a love story with philosophical overtones, racing toward a happy ending!
