Chris doesn’t watch her boyfriend, Rick, play hockey for a very specific reason. Had she known when they met that he was hockey player, she probably would never have dated him. When she found out, it was too late because her emotions were already involved. When her abusive ex, Craig, shows up and begins to take his aggression out on Rick while they’re out on the ice, she knows that she has to tell Rick the truth about her past. Hearing about the abuse that Chris suffered at the hands of her ex-boyfriend may be difficult for some readers because it included forced intercourse. Adrianna Dane brings to light the impact that abuse has on the mind long after the body has healed. Rick is an absolutely wonderful man and Chris is a very lucky woman to have him in her life. Therapy starts right after Rick is attacked by Craig on the ice, which is the catalyst for Chris confessing her earlier relationship with him. I think that I would have enjoyed this book better had the story started a little sooner. Hearing about Chris’s hesitancy but not experiencing any of it, detracted from the overall impact it had on their relationship. Their chemistry is hot, which lent a lot of credence to their emotional connection. It was the poignant love scenes that kept me from giving this book a lower rating.
