 | | Veterinarian Dae can't forget his lost lover Jack no matter how intensely he tries. Even though he was the one to literally kick Jack to the curb over his rampant infidelities during the course of three years, Jack's smile and charm still linger in Dae's mind. The only gay couple in town, their breakup seems to send the townspeople into mass mourning and sympathy, for Dae. While out jogging one night, Dae shifts into full werewolf form to run out his aggressions and grief, and is knocked unconscious by a mud-boggler. He wakes up in a cage in his own animal hospital, under tending by sexy and devoted assistant Sean. When a street addict breaks in and threatens to kill Sean and all the animals in order to get drugs, Dae is shot twice, and then decides to shift even at the risk of terrifying Sean. Change of Heart is one of those stories which seems fairly simple on the surface, then reveals a series of complex levels. The ever-intensifying plot changes and the emotions building, first between Dae and Jack in Dae's flashbacks, and then between Sean and Dae, will make this a story to linger in the reader's mind for quite some time to come. The paranormal element is treated in a realistic manner, and adds to the intensity of the story line. Kiernan Kelly is an author to watch. |
